Imaging Services Available

The Radiology Department provides a range of diagnostic imaging services to support the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients.

  • CT scanning. Imaging of the head, chest, abdomen, pelvis and spine, including contrast-enhanced studies where clinically indicated.
  • Digital X-ray. Imaging of the chest, abdomen, skull, spine and limbs, including post-reduction and post-operative examinations.
  • Ultrasound. Obstetric, abdominal, pelvic, renal and soft-tissue ultrasound examinations.
  • Other imaging services Additional imaging services are available where applicable, with referral to other facilities for examinations not currently offered, such as MRI

The availability of CT imaging has strengthened the hospital’s capacity to investigate trauma, neurological conditions, internal diseases and other complex clinical presentations.

What CT Imaging Means for Patients

A CT scan produces detailed cross-sectional images of the body, helping clinicians assess conditions that may require urgent or specialised treatment.

  • Head injury and stroke. Helps identify conditions such as bleeding within the brain and other abnormalities that may influence urgent clinical management.
  • Major trauma. Helps assess injuries involving the chest, abdomen, pelvis and spine following road traffic injuries, falls and other major trauma.
  • Acute abdominal conditions.Helps clinicians identify the cause and extent of serious abdominal conditions and determine whether further intervention may be required.
  • Suspected cancer. Helps assess the location and extent of disease and supports referral and treatment planning.
  • Chest conditions. Provides additional assessment where a chest X-ray may not provide sufficient information, including in selected cases of complicated pneumonia, tuberculosis and other chest conditions

The availability of CT imaging at Nyambene Sub-County Hospital improves access to advanced diagnostic imaging for patients in the region. Where clinically appropriate, patients can undergo CT imaging closer to where they receive care, reducing the need for transfers solely for diagnostic imaging and supporting timely clinical decision making.
