Who we are
Nyambene Sub-County Hospital is a public Level 4 hospital owned and operated by the County Government of Meru through the Department of Health Services. Established in 1998, the hospital provides comprehensive healthcare services to communities across Igembe region and neighbouring areas.
With a capacity of 223 beds, the hospital provides 24-hour emergency care alongside outpatient and inpatient services, maternity care, surgical services, specialist clinics, diagnostic services, renal dialysis and newborn care. Over the years, we have continued to expand our infrastructure, workforce and clinical capacity in response to the growing healthcare needs of the communities we serve.
What we do
- Primary and routine care. Outpatient consultations, chronic disease management, immunisation, antenatal care, minor procedures, laboratory services and pharmacy services.
- Emergency and inpatient care. 24-hour emergency services, inpatient admission, medical and surgical care, maternity and gynaecological services, paediatric care and theatre services.
- Diagnostic services. Laboratory testing, digital X-ray, ultrasound and CT imaging to support clinical assessment and treatment.
- Specialist and referral care. Specialist clinics, haemodialysis, obstetric fistula surgery and coordinated referrals for patients requiring specialised or higher-level care.
Who we serve
Nyambene Sub-County Hospital serves an estimated 850,000 people, primarily from Igembe South, Igembe Central and Igembe North, as well as neighbouring areas of Tigania East and Tigania West. The hospital also serves communities from the Isiolo and Marsabit borderlands and the wider population around Maua and its surrounding trading centres.
- Referring facilities. Dispensaries and health centres that refer patients for hospital-level assessment, diagnostics, surgery and other specialised services.
- Students and trainees. Learners from nursing, clinical medicine, laboratory, pharmacy, health records and other health related training programmes.
- Community health promoters Community based teams that connect households with healthcare services and support continuity of care
- Partners & County Health Structures Organisations and county teams supporting healthcare delivery, infrastructure development, training and quality improvement.
