Everything you need to know before, during and after your visit to the hospital.
What to bring
When coming to hospital, where applicable, Please bring:
- National identification or documentation. ID card, passport, birth certificate or birth notification for children.
- Insurance cover details. Make sure Your Social Health Authority or any other approved insurance cover is active
- Referral letter If you have been referred from another health facility.
- Previous medical records. Discharge summaries, clinic notes and your hospital file number.
- Current medicines or a written medication list. Bringing the actual packets is even better.
- Investigation results. Laboratory results, X-ray films, scan reports and ECGs.
- Tracer card If you are attending a clinic where you already have a record.
- Child health booklet For children attending paediatric or immunisation services.
- Antenatal booklet For maternity patients attending antenatal care.
Emergency patients should not delay
If you need urgent medical attention, do not delay your visit while gathering documents. Report directly to Accident and Emergency. Registration, identification and health-cover requirements can be addressed as part of the care process.
What to expect on arrival
- Registration. Report to the Health Registry. New patients are registered and issued a tracer card; returning patients present their tracer card to retrieve their medical records.
- Cover Verification For SHA or any other approved insurance cover, patients should provide their National ID for eligibility and active cover verification. Where applicable, services are paid through official hospital payment channels.
- Triage. Vital signs are recorded and your condition assessed to determine the appropriate consultation room or service point..
- Consultation & Investigations. A clinician assesses your condition and may request laboratory tests, imaging or other investigations where indicated.
- Treatment and dispensing Prescribed treatment is provided, with medicines dispensed through the pharmacy where applicable.
- Next Steps. You may receive a follow-up appointment, specialist referral, admission or referral to another facility, depending on your condition.
Practical advice
- Arrive on time for scheduled clinics and appointments.
- Allow sufficient time for registration, assessment, consultation and any required investigations.
- Come with an accompanying person if you are unwell, elderly or may require assistance.
- Keep your documents safe and bring your patient or clinic number when returning for care.
- Always request an official receipt for any payment made at the hospital.
