Patient Rights and Responsibilities
The standard of care you are entitled to receive, and how you can help us provide it.
At Nyambene, every patient has the right to
- Respect and dignity. Courteous treatment regardless of who you are, where you come from or what you can pay.
- Appropriate healthcare. Assessment and treatment based on clinical need and accepted standards.
- Clear information about their care. Your diagnosis, the proposed treatment and the likely outcome, in language you understand.
- Privacy and confidentiality, during examination and in how your information is held and shared.
- Participate in healthcare decisions, including asking questions, seeking a second opinion and declining treatment.
- Give informed consent before any procedure, having had the risks, benefits and alternatives explained.
- Appropriate emergency care without delay and regardless of ability to pay.
- Receive information about applicable charges, and an official receipt for anything paid.
- Provide feedback or make a complaint without discrimination, and receive a response.
Patients and caregivers are encouraged to
- Provide accurate information to healthcare workers, including symptoms, medicines, allergies and previous treatment.
- Follow agreed treatment plans, and say so if you are finding it difficult rather than stopping quietly.
- Treat staff and other patients with courtesy. Abuse and violence are not tolerated.
- Respect hospital property, ward rules and visiting hours.
- Keep appointments, or let us know when you cannot attend.
- Pay applicable charges and always ask for an official receipt.
- Respect the privacy of other patients. Do not photograph or discuss them.
Complaining never affects your care
Raising a concern will not change how you or your family are treated. Anonymous reporting is accepted. If something has gone wrong, we would rather know.
