Assessment, treatment and follow-up of injuries and conditions affecting the bones, joints and musculoskeletal system.
The Orthopaedic Service provides assessment and treatment for orthopaedic injuries and conditions, working closely with Accident & Emergency, Theatre, Radiology and Physiotherapy. Diagnostic imaging, including digital X-ray and CT, is available on site to support clinical assessment and treatment.
Emergency trauma cases are received through Accident & Emergency 24 hours a day.
The service provides:
- Fracture assessment, reduction and management
- Cast, splint and bandage application and removal
- Traction for selected fractures
- Trauma wound care and debridement
- CTEV (clubfoot) assessment and correction
- Post-operative orthopaedic review and follow-up
- Assessment and follow-up of orthopaedic conditions
- Referral for complex fixation and specialist orthopaedic surgery
- Rehabilitation in collaboration with the Physiotherapy Service
