Nutrition

Nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, diet prescription and follow-up.

The Nutrition Service provides nutritional assessment, counselling and therapeutic nutrition support for inpatients and outpatients of all ages. Nutrition care forms an important part of treatment and recovery, with dietary advice tailored to individual needs and based on locally available foods.

Patients may be referred to the service from any department of the hospital.

The service provides:

  • Nutritional assessment for children and adults
  • Management of acute malnutrition, including therapeutic feeding
  • Breastfeeding and infant and young child feeding support
  • Therapeutic diet assessment and prescription for inpatients
  • Dietary counselling for diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease and other chronic conditions
  • Nutrition support during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Nutrition support for patients receiving care for HIV or TB
