Palliative Care
Diagnosis, care and treatment focused on comfort, dignity and symptom control.
Palliative care supports patients living with serious, long-term or life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families and caregivers. It focuses on relieving pain and other distressing symptoms, supporting physical, emotional and psychosocial wellbeing, preserving dignity, and improving quality of life. Palliative care can be provided alongside treatment for the underlying illness.
Patients may be referred to the service from any department of the hospital according to their clinical needs.
The service provides:
- Pain and other symptom management
- Supportive care for patients with advanced medical conditions.
- Emotional and psychosocial support for patients and families
- Guidance and support for families and caregivers providing care at home
- Coordination of care with hospital wards, clinics and community health promoters
